Exterior Improvements
What to know before starting an exterior project.
Many homeowners make updates over time — fresh paint, a new roof, updated siding, or outdoor improvements. We are grateful for the care residents take in maintaining and improving their homes.
Under our Covenants, exterior changes require written approval from the Board before work begins.
Projects That Require Approval
The following types of exterior modifications must be submitted to the Board for review prior to starting work:
- New construction or additions
- Exterior paint color changes
- Roof replacement
- Window replacement
- Siding replacement
- Decks, porches, terraces, or playhouses
- Driveway changes
- Exterior material changes
The Review Process
If you are planning any exterior modification, please reach out to the Board in advance. Our goal is to review requests as quickly as possible and provide timely responses. The Covenants allow up to 30 days for review, though we aim to respond sooner whenever possible.
Early communication helps avoid delays and keeps improvements aligned with the overall character of the neighborhood.
How to Submit a Request
All exterior modification requests should be sent to board@scotiafw.com. To help the Board review your project quickly, please include as much detail as possible:
- Description of the project — what work is being done and why
- Detailed plans or drawings — site plans, blueprints, sketches, or diagrams showing the scope of work
- Materials and colors — specific product names, manufacturer color codes, or samples
- Photos — current photos of the area being modified and, if applicable, reference images of the desired outcome
- Contractor information — name and contact details of any contractors involved
- Estimated timeline — projected start and completion dates
The more complete your submission, the faster the Board can review and respond. Incomplete requests may require follow-up, which can delay approval.
